New venue for Coached Swim Camp @ Sands Beach Resort, Lanzarote. November 2017. ALL AGES

November 13th – 17th inc

Following on from the success of our Triathlon camp in April, Tri50 is returning to the Canary Islands to run a 5 day fully coached Swim camp (SwimSmooth), catering for all ages from novices (minimum of 100m swim) through to Age-Group athletes.

Technique is the foundation to swimming freestyle. Avoid loading the miles onto poor form, it’s not efficient, and puts you at much higher risk of injury

Our goal is to fine tune your freestyle technique to create a solid base for building your volume over the winter training months, and of course to enjoy some warm winter sunshine! You can look forward to underwater filming, 1-1 corrective analysis and feedback and a personalised 6 week training programme to take home. Plus, daily coached pool swims, several coached sea swims, and strength and conditioning to make you a more robust athlete. And it doesn’t stop there; check out the full itinerary for everything on offer during this exciting training week.

So what does the coaching fee include?

The camp starts Monday morning and finishes Friday afternoon. Accommodation is booked for the week with the possibility of either Saturday or Sunday arrival and departures, giving you a little R&R time.

Every session is coached by Sandra and Jo, who are both BTF Level 3 coaches

The camp includes:

  • Individual underwater filming, technique analysis and 1-1 feedback
  • Small coach/athlete ratios to ensure individual attention throughout the camp
  • Fully coached pool swim sessions – between 2hrs and 4hrs every day
  • 3 or 4 fully coached sea swim sessions.  The sea swims are designed to cater for everyone. Jo and Sandra will provide the perfect coaching environment to build confidence in the sea while more experienced swimmers have the opportunity to build their swim endurance, and develop and practice their OW skills
  • Core strength, and upper body strength (led by Sandra who is also a L4 Master Personal Trainer)Learn simple exercises necessary to help keep you fit and well and minimise your injury risk. And what exactly do we mean by ‘core’ anyway? By the time you go home you will have a programme to use that doesn’t require a gym, and you will know how to execute your exercises correctly
  • Yoga sessions at the venue are timetabled into our programme
  • Workshops (Coach or athlete choice, we’re open to suggestions)We are thinking of : nutrition, what is RPE and how to use it, how to appropriately progress your training load. What else would you like/prefer?
  • Unfettered access to your Coaches to ask questions and pick brainsWe are there to offer guidance and support, pass on our knowledge and share our experiences. But we also want to encourage input and discussion among the athletes so you too can pass on your key tips and reflections from your own experiences
  • Swim event/race of varying distances in the sea at the end of the week
  • Strength programme and Core Conditioning programme to take home
  • End of week 1-1 to discuss how best to plan your training, including an individual 6 week swim training programme to use at home
  • One free afternoon for a little R&R
  • Support, friendship and encouragement from a group of like-minded individuals which will almost certainly continue long past Day 5
  • OPTIONAL AND AT EXTRA COST
    • 1-1 Coaching during the week (swim or run)
    • Extra filmed session at the end of the week and consequent 1-1 discussion
    • Additional swim training plan to cover Jan/Feb 2018

Testimonials and posts from past camps

I met Jo at Dorney Lake, following the Shock Absorber’s Women’s Only Triathlon 3 years ago whilst in a strop having decided to give up Triathlon following an abysmal swim in which I spent of the time swimming on my  back.  Jo and I had not met before but she laid a bet with me that after 5 swimming lessons with her I could compete again with confidence.  This is a bet she won, I lost!

Without Jo’s help I would never have come 1st in both the Windsor Sprint and Dorney Shock Absorber’s Women’s Only Challenge Triathlon earlier this month, for my age group. I have learnt so much over the months and have loved the SMART training.

Jo is a really special person; Coach and friend. She gives her all to helping others to achieve and is a role model for mature Triathletes, which I, for one, aspire to.

Thank You, Jo.

Sue Rossi, July 2017

After a good 10 years of playing at triathlon and doing OK, I realised I needed some direction and accountability to my training & racing. As a PT and tri coach myself I know the importance of this, yet couldn’t coach myself, and realised I probably wasn’t training as smart as I could be.So I contacted Jo, having met her a few times through the triathlon world previous.

I’ve now been training with her for just over 6 months, and I have already improved my 10k run time by 2 minutes, got into the top 6 in my age group in every race I’ve entered this year, plus a 1st and 2nd place. Jo’s quiet persuasion is enough to encourage me to put my all into training, race more than I have before, and race well. She is a true inspiration, and I have every faith that she will be pushing the right buttons to get me on track for age-group qualification in the future.

Alison Smith, July 2017

The timing couldn’t have been better for the Fuerteventura camp — it got our heads into race mode as the season starts. It’s just another facet of Jo and Sandra’s intelligent and organized training. Accolades to Coaches and to the lovely athletes in the Tri50 team.

Janet Harper, May 2017

This was my second year at the Tri50 training camp and this time it was crucial to my preparation for my first attempt at Age Group qualification.  Once again the coaching was excellent and we were really encouraged to find abilities we never thought we had.  I emerged from the camp exhausted, but with new skills and a deeper understanding of my strengths.  I am now as prepared as I could ever be, both physically and mentally, for my forthcoming competition.

Julie G, April 2017

This was the first time I had been on a training camp and I specifically wanted one that took into account that I was an older athlete. I know Jo and some of the athletes from her training session on a Monday so I was confident that it would be quality sessions with a nice group of people.  My expectations were exceeded.  The training sessions were challenging for me (as my training at home is not consistent), well structured and focused on moving each person towards their individual goals. Not only did it take my fitness up a couple of notches, it was fun!  They were all an amazing group of people and fun to be with; very supportive of each other and I have made some new friends as a result.  I will be going back next year.

Fuerteventura 2017 – Day 10: Have a Tri!! by the Brownlee Sisters

Our last day thinking it was going to be an easy one before we head home tomorrow, but instead Jo & Sandra had different ideas for us!. After a restless night and still feeling tired, we met on the beach for T1 and T2 Transition training with Jo & Ted, a very informative & helpful […]

Fuerteventura 2017 – Day 9 by Nigel

The alarm awakens me from my slumbers at 6:30 am. I tiptoe tentatively to the window hoping against hope that windy Fuerteventura would come to my rescue, making it impossibly dangerous for our early sea swim session. No such luck, peering out into the morning’s dawn it’s calm & tranquil, and even at this unearthly […]

Fuerteventura 2017 – Day 8 by Barney

After a late night of tapas, great company, wine and rum shots, our considerate Coaches, Jo and Sandra, gave everybody a well deserved rest and lie in! Although this wouldnt keep our Coaches down and, leading by example, they all took to the sea first thing. My spies tell me this was like an exhibition […]
